Project Summary
The purpose of this project was to increase the transmission load-carrying capacity of the substation by installing a larger conductor line as well as to improve the reliability and serviceability of the lines with the new layout and re-structuring. In addition, the nearly 60 miles of transmission lines meet new NECA safety requirements.
The work involved the installation of concrete-filled drilled shaft foundations for monopole and lattice tower structures that carry the new high-voltage power lines. The 1,645 foundations required over 60,000 yards of concrete. Because much of the work was performed under and around hot, energized power lines, the project required a high level of safety protocols and thorough task analysis. The terrain ranged from desert to mountainous areas with limited working areas. The protection of the public was a high priority as a majority of work was completed adjacent to active hiking trails.
